As part of the medical license application process, many state medical boards, Indiana and Alaska to name a few, require certified to be true copies of your medical school diploma, postgraduate training certificate, birth certificate, specialty board certificates, etc. To obtain a certified to be true copy, take the original document and a photocopy of the document to a notary public. Your bank should provide notary services at no charge. Otherwise, check the local yellow pages for a notary near you. The notary public will compare the original document to the photocopy to make sure it is an authentic copy of the original. The notary must write “I certify this to be a true copy of the original document” on the photocopy and attest to that fact by signing and notarizing the document. Make sure the notary seal is visible on the copies. The medical board may not accept them otherwise.
