Many state medical boards require an AMA Profile from the American Medical Association or AMA. The AMA will be able to provide a profile even if you are not an AMA Member. The AMA collects and reports information such as disciplinary action, criminal charges, instances of misconduct, malpractice cases, etc. Ordering an AMA Profile is just one of many services provided by MedPro Central. Here are step by step instructions to request your AMA Profile online in case you decide to handle your own credentialing. They make it easy to send your profile to more than one state medical boards at a time. Their service is free to members and costs $33 per request to non-members. Go to the AMA Profile Service Page and click the “GO” button beside “Physicians Only – Requests for Profiles to be sent to Licensing Boards”. Search by your name and date of birth. *If the system can not find you, then call the AMA at 1-800-665-2882. They are available by phone from 8:30 AM to 4:45 PM Central Time, Monday through Friday. They are always friendly and very helpful. Once the system finds you, click the “Login” button. Read the agreement and click the “Accept” button. Choose the State Medical Board to which you’d like your profile sent and click the “Go” button. Click the “Checkout” button. Choose “First Class Mail” and click the “Continue Button” If you are not an AMA Member, enter your payment information and click on the “Submit” button. Be sure to print out the confirmation number just in case you need it to reorder. *If for some reason the medical board does not receive your profile as requested, simply contact the AMA and ask them to send it again.
